“Once there was a way to get back homeward…” a sentence from Golden Slumbers song, Beatles, sing by KD Lang become back sound of hundred Emperor penguins journey on the white snow land of Antartica. Is Mumble, the little emperor penguin (voiced by Elijah Wood) who being isolated from his community just because he can’t sing like the other penguins. How hard and strong he try to sing, there is no single tone he can spell in his mind. This weakness was so embarrassed in penguins world, because beautiful song and voice is the main way to take attention from the female. So, what happen if he can’t sing a love song? It surely that Mumble will never get a girl.
Even Mumble doesn’t have a beautiful voices, he have something more than others, Mumble was able to dance and played his little feet on the white snow. Yup, Mumble was a bright tap dancer! Whenever Mumble feel sad, dance and skate on ice was the best way to throw away that feeling. Mumble doesn’t need action by his beak, everything flowing like a water with his happy feet.
When he birth from his shell, Mumble already showed his ability as a real tap dancer. If other babies penguin was walking slowly, Mumble tap his feet with happy feeling on the cold Antartica white snows.
The different was always created loneliness, and it happen to Mumble too. Because being different, Mumble lived in isolated between his friend and his community. Only his mother, Norma Jean (voiced by Nicole Kidman), his father (voiced by Hugh Jackman), and his best friend, Gloria (voiced by Brittany Murphy), whose always stand right besides.
Unfortunately, his dance ability doesn’t mean anything. When he grown up and hope to be accepted by his community, Mumble disappointed again. He was dumped by the Leader of Emperor penguin, Noah The Elder (voiced by Hugo Weaving).
Noah feel that Mumble ‘hippity-hoppity’ is the weird life style, and being the main cause of fish disappear and bothering their nature. At last, with the sad feeling, Mumble decide to take a journey and try to prove that they have a wrong opinion about him.
In his journey to find the real fact, Mumble was accompany by Adelie penguins, whose call themselves The Amigos. Ramon (voiced by Robin Williams) as a Amigos leader become the motor of Mumble spirits, and always help Mumble trough the trouble, including help him growing up his confident to say his love to Gloria.
Mumble and friends adventure find a bright way when they meet Lovelace (voiced by Robin Williams too), the medical man of Adelie community. With Lovelace information, Mumble find the answer why the fish was disappear and bothering their food chains. And the answer was the human showing.
By watching HAPPY FEET is feels like see the Opera show with Antartica setting, because almost a half of a movie showing music from all genre, start from rock, pop, rap, funk and latin music.
Boogie Wonderland by Earth Wind and Fire, The Beach Boys with Do It Again and Somebody to Love by Queen when the male show up and find a couple. Even when Mumble leaved Gloria, the Chicago’s song…”if you leave me now, you’ll take away the biggest part of me ….huhuhuhu…no baby please don’t go…!, All capture so beautifully by John Powell.
The animation also being the most attractive of this George Millers movie. Especially when Mumble and Amigos try to run away from the sea lion and whale helped by younger penguin, is really enough to make our heart beating.
This movie was production by Warner Bros Picture, have 1 hour 45 minutes duration, give a beautiful messages about a loyalty trough a monogamy that being the penguin’s way of life, Love and care, life force and defend, hope and dream to be expected to his community, all captured in one show that looks match and you’ll feel sorry if you missed this movie !
